Chapter 4 on Community Relations really helps in providing a better detailed view of what community relations actually consist and deals with. The textbook describes community relations as a public relations function, is an institution's planned, activity, and continuing participation within a community to maintain and enhance its enivronment to the benefit of both the institution and the community. One example that the book used was a case where the chemical industry takes responsibilty for community concerns. They took the initiative to make a statement saying, "We have said all along that we are not asking the public to trust us. We are asking everyone to track us, to monitor our performance and make suggestions that will help us improve." This is a effective community relations strategy because it's saying we aren't trying to hide anything, help us to help you, so that everyone benefits in the end.
